Contact us
Email support@brightcard.io and a person will read it. We aim to reply within two working days.
Brightcard has no accounts and no servers, so there is no ticket portal to sign in to and nothing for us to look up about you. That means a good email does the work of a support session, see what to include below.
- App:: Brightcard for iPhone, published by Fioritmo B.V.
- Email:: support@brightcard.io
- Company details and registered address:: https://fioritmo.com
What to include when you write
Because we cannot see your device, your wallet, or any logs, we hold nothing, the detail you give us is all we have to work from:
- What you expected to happen, and what happened instead.
- The steps that lead to it, and whether it happens every time.
- Your iPhone model and iOS version: (Settings → General → About).
- Your Brightcard version: (Settings → About inside the app).
- A screenshot or screen recording, if it is something you can show.
Please do not send us card numbers, security codes, document numbers, passwords or anything you keep behind a secret field. We never need them to help you, and an email is not a safe place for them. A screenshot with the sensitive parts covered is fine.
Before you write: the quick answers
Several of the most common questions are answered on the Brightcard home page, whether data is really only on your device, what happens if you lose your phone, moving cards to a new phone, the one-time purchase, and what happens at the free-tier limit.
Common issues
A barcode won't scan at the till
Brightcard preserves the exact symbology of the code you scanned, Code 128, EAN-13/8, UPC-A, Code 39, ITF, PDF417 or Aztec, so a card that scans in the shop should scan from the app. If a register won't read it:
- Turn your screen brightness up.: Most scanner failures are brightness, not the code.
- Check the code was captured as the right type.: Open the card and compare the code under the barcode with the digits printed on the plastic card.
- Some readers can't read a screen at all.: Older laser scanners read ink, not light. There is nothing an app can do about this one; the cashier can usually type the number in.
The camera didn't read my receipt, card or document correctly
Reading text from a photo, a receipt, a paper business card, a credit card, or a passport's machine-readable zone, runs on your device using Apple's Vision framework, and what it produces is a suggestion for you to check. A photo of paper is never a certain thing. Retake the photo with even lighting, the document flat and filling the frame, then correct any field by hand before saving.
The chip on my passport won't read over NFC
Reading a document's chip requires the numbers printed on the document you are physically holding, and the chip only answers to its own document. If it fails:
- Check the document number, date of birth and expiry: you entered match the printing exactly, the chip's key is derived from them, so one wrong character means no reply.
- Move the phone slowly around the document.: Chip position varies; on a passport it is usually in the cover or the photo page.
- Take the document out of any case, and remove any thick phone case.
Note that reading a chip is not a verification: Brightcard does not check a document's signature against any authority and makes no claim that a document is genuine.
Reading a bank card over NFC doesn't work
Brightcard can read a contactless payment card's chip to copy down the number and expiry. It reads the card; it never pays with it, contacts no bank, and authorises nothing.
- The card has to be contactless.: A card with no contactless symbol has no chip the phone can talk to, type the number in instead.
- One card at a time, out of the wallet.: Several cards together, or a card left in a wallet with travel passes and hotel keys, will confuse the reader. Take the card out and hold it flat against the top of the phone.
- Some cards will not answer at all.: Certain issuers and some non-Visa/Mastercard schemes do not publish the records this reads. That is the card's choice, not a fault, and typing the number in works fine.
The security code (CVC/CVV) can never be read this way. It is not on the chip in any readable form, no app can obtain it from a tap. If you want it stored, type it in yourself, and it stays optional.
A split expense doesn't add up
A shared expense works its totals out from the lines you entered rather than from a figure typed at the end, so when the shares and the amount spent disagree, the app tells you instead of quietly absorbing it.
- "Shares exceed the spend": usually means the same money was entered twice, a subtotal assigned to somebody on top of itemised lines that already covered their share, or a round entered twice.
- "Part of the spend is unassigned" means a line is charged to nobody, or to people since removed from the split. A line naming nobody is split evenly between everyone present; with nobody present it lands on no one.
- Names in a split are your own record.: People are added from the business cards you keep in Brightcard, or typed. Nobody is contacted, invited or notified, and marking somebody paid changes a note on your device and nothing else.
Somebody can't open the expense PDF I sent, or I sent the wrong expenses
The export asks which expenses to include, and separately whether the page shows who has settled up, because a report usually holds things that are nobody else's business.
A sent PDF cannot be recalled. Once it has left your device it is the recipient's copy, and neither you nor we can reach it, delete it or change it. If you sent the wrong thing, the only remedy is asking them to delete it. Check the selection before you export.
The Dictate button isn't there
Dictation uses Apple's on-device speech recognition, and Brightcard deliberately does not fall back to the older server-based API that can send audio to Apple. So the button appears only where your device can transcribe your chosen language locally. If your device or language has no local model, the button is absent by design rather than broken. Dictation also requires a newer iOS than Brightcard's minimum, the framework it uses shipped in iOS 26.
I bought Pro but it isn't unlocked
Pro is a one-time purchase tied to your Apple Account, and your Pro status is worked out on your device from your App Store purchase history; there is no Brightcard account involved.
- Restore purchases: in the app's Settings.
- Check you are signed in to the Apple Account you bought it with: (Settings → your name → Media & Purchases).
- If it still doesn't appear, email us with the App Store receipt Apple emailed you not your payment details.
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us: use reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue a refund directly, and we never see your payment method.
I've hit the free limit
The free tier covers 12 items across 2 wallets, 1 saved location per card and 5 balance snapshots per holdings account. The limits are keep-all, block-new: nothing you already saved is ever hidden, locked or deleted, only *adding* beyond the limit is blocked until you're back under it or you buy Pro. The same applies if you restore a backup larger than the free tier.
I lost my phone, or my data is gone
This is the honest one. Everything lives on your device and there is no server-side copy, so if you lose the device and you have no backup and key, the contents are gone we cannot recover them, because we never had them. Brightcard's encrypted backups exist precisely for this; the key rides your iCloud Keychain so your own Apple devices can restore it. If you still have the device, export a backup now.
A Secure Transfer won't open
A transfer is an encrypted file plus a short code delivered separately. If the recipient can't open it, the code is almost always the reason, check it was typed exactly, and that they have the whole .bcshare file rather than a preview or a re-compressed copy. We cannot open a transfer for you; there is no server in the flow and no key we hold.
Privacy, terms and age rating
- Privacy Policy what the app handles and why nothing is collected.
- Terms of Use the End User License Agreement.
- Age Suitability how the 4+ rating was determined.
Reporting a security issue
If you believe you have found a security vulnerability, email support@brightcard.io with the subject line "Security" and as much detail as you can give us to reproduce it. Please give us a reasonable chance to fix it before publishing. We will confirm we received your report.
